Wall Street jumped into the market today, after the government reported a larger-than-expected rise in orders for big-ticket manufactured goods as indicated the economy is stronger than many investors thought.
Department of Commerce said durable goods orders jumped 1.3 percent in July compared with the previous month, led by a large gain in demand for commercial aircraft. This was well above the .1 increase expected by economists surveyed by Thomson / IFR.

Consumers have some not-so-nice things to say about credit-card companies and federal regulators have given them the chance to air their gripes.
In public comments on proposed credit-card rules, consumers complained about “loan sharks,” “crooks,” “leeches” and “usury.” Many said rates seemed to be raised arbitrarily and punitively, adding that they should have a fair amount of time to pay bills
Regulators are looking to complete final credit-card rules this year. Proposals from the Federal Reserve, Office of Thrift Supervision, and National Credit Union Administration would take steps such as:
* Prohibiting a rate increase on an outstanding balance, except under limited circumstances, such as when a minimum payment has not been received within 30 days after the due date
* Prohibiting institutions from applying payments over the minimum in ways that maximize interest charges

No. 755 was an opposite-field drive to left-center field, moving Bonds within one swing of having baseball’s pinnacle of power all to himself. San Diego Padres gave it up with almost all the word rooting against Bonds. the world almost hoping for Bonds to get hurt. He has now tied the record, the next one to claim the record to his own.
Commissioner Bud Selig stood up and put his hands in his pockets while Bonds’ family hugged and high-fived. When Bonds crossed the plate, he lifted his batboy son, Nikolai, and carried him several steps in a tight hug.
