Xbox 360 Controller (118/366)

Decided to do a different look at a photo I did a long time ago with my Xbox 360 controller – this time using a little bit of off camera flash action that didn’t consist of just using the ceiling as a massive softbox.

Strobist Info:
1) Canon 430EX fired at 1/16th power, 28mm zoom camera right. A piece of paper acts as a diffuser just a couple centimetres from the controller.
2) Vivitar 283 aimed at controller using several sheets of paper several centimetres from the controller as well camera left. Due to the sheets flopping over they only diffused the bottom portion of the shot.

Wish I’d taken a setup shot – it would have shown what I tried to explain much more succinctly. Definitely worth looking at large since the sharpness really shows.

Only complaint about this photo is that it reminded me of how gummed up my sensor is with dust right now. Took a couple minutes of healing in Lightroom to remove the dust bunnies.

[19/365] Xbox 360 Controller

As I come to the last day of my mini-holiday (4 days off from work for no real reason) I thought I’d take a photo of the thing I’ve been using the most; my Xbox 360 Controller. I went through a long period of not touching my Xbox at all and so I’m quite pleased that given the time I’ve finally gotten around to finishing the Soviet campaign in Red Alert 3 (hilarious game) and getting a bit further in GTA IV which is the main game I have been playing. There is nothing quite like firing rockets at the unsuspecting public to cheer you up The only problem I have now is that I don’t think I can trust myself when driving a real car as I might momentarily lapse into thinking I’m playing the game and go on a rampage up and down the pavements!

You might notice that the controller is a little different to the standard Xbox 360 controller as it has a full keyboard built into it. This is the "Xbox 360 Messenger Kit" which plugs into the bottom of the standard controller and then can be used in-game with MSN messenger or on some text input dialogues. I bought it after fruitlessly trying to talk to people online at the same time as playing a game. Surprisingly it’s very light and doesn’t interfere with the controller at all so I highly recommend it!
